Rothes Wind Farm first became operational in 2005 and was extended in 2012. Our consent for Rothes III Wind Farm consists of 28 turbines of varying tip heights, this involves:
Three turbines at 149.9m to tip
- Eight turbines at 200m to tip
- 17 turbines at 225m to tip
Combined, this will bring the total number of turbines at the site to 68 – generating, approximately, an additional 170MW of clean electricity and delivering a further £850,000 per year in community benefit funding.
As part of our activity to bring the project into construction, we have applied to the Scottish Government to vary the consent, proposing to increase the tip height of three smaller turbines from 149.9m to 200m (T9, T13 and T14). If consented, this will bring the turbine heights to:
- 11 at 200m to tip
- 17 turbines at 225m to tip
The application to change the tip height of these turbines will help to ensure that we can procure readily available technology as well as maximising the generating capacity of the site.
