Our operational wind farms

A major contributor to renewable energy production

Fred. Olsen Renewables own and operate 12 wind farms with over 300 turbines in UK, Norway, and Sweden. 

The wind energy production in 2022 corresponds to a Green House Gas (GHG) reduction of estimated 900 000 tonnes CO2 equivalents.

Our own CO2 footprint is limited, consisting of fuel emissions from site vehicles, air travel, use of electrical energy at site buildings, and CO2 footprint related to construction activities.

It is embedded in Fred. Olsen Renewables' culture to minimise the environmental footprint in all our activities and to operate within the highest health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ) standards.

UK: Brockloch Rig I

In late 2017, Fred. Olsen Renewables purchased two windfarms (Polwhat Rig and Gallow Rig) from Windy Standard Limited. The Brockloch Rig I wind farm consists of 36 turbines in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.

UK: Brockloch Rig Wind

The Brockloch Rig wind farm is located near the village of Brocklock in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The project received consent in 2007.

This will be an addition to the existing Brockloch Rig I wind farm which was originally developed by RWE npower renewables and Fred. Olsen Renewables.

UK: Crystal Rig I

Crystal Rig I consists of 25 2.5MW Nordex N80 turbines on the Lammermuir Hills approximately 40 km east of Edinburgh and 10 km south of Dunbar in the Scottish Borders, adjacent to the boundary with East Lothian.

UK: Crystal Rig II

Crystal Rig II Wind Farm consists of 60 Siemens 2.3 MW turbines and received consent on 12 July 2005. Construction started in 2008, and the site was completed in 2010. The 60 turbines are positioned predominantly to the west of the existing Crystal Rig Wind Farm, with turbines both within the Scottish Borders Council and the East Lothian Council.

Crystal Rig I and II combined are able to provide electricity generation equivalent to the consumption of 111,000 homes, on an annual average basis.

UK: Crystal Rig III

Crystal Rig Phase III is the extension to the successful Crystal Rig I and Crystal Rig II projects. The extension is on the northern side of Crystal Rig II, 1.3km to the south of the Lothian Edge and 3km north of the summit of Birk Cleugh Hill.

UK: Mid Hill

The Mid Hill Wind Farm is located mainly on forestry land in Fetteresso Forest southwest of Aberdeen. Construction of the 25 Siemens 2.3 MW wind turbine generators started in late 2012 and was completed in 2014 giving a total capacity of 57.5 MW. The rotor diameter is 93 m and the height of the towers are 78.5 m.

UK: Paul's Hill

Paul’s Hill Wind Farm consists of 28 Siemens 2.3 MW turbines located southwest of Elgin and 15 km west of Charleston of Aberlour. The project construction commenced in January 2004 and the wind farm started full operation in May 2006.

UK: Rothes I

The construction of the project commenced in January 2004 and the wind farm started full operation in May 2005. The site is located close to the city of Elgin on the east coast of Scotland. The wind farm consists of 22 turbines, each rated at 2.3 MW, giving a total installed capacity of 50.6 MW.

UK: Rothes II

Rothes II Wind Farm is an extension of the Rothes Wind Farm, located 20 km southwest of Elgin on the west coast of Scotland. Rothes II received consent for 18 turbines in January 2010. The construction of the wind farm commenced in the summer of 2012 and started operating in the second quarter of 2013.

Norway: Lista

Lista Wind Farm is the first wind farm project Fred. Olsen Renewables has constructed in Norway. It consists of 31 Siemens 2.3 MW wind turbine generators (WTG) with a hub height of 80m and a rotor diameter of 93 metres. The site’s total nameplate capacity is 71.3 MW.

Sweden: Fäbodliden

Fäbodliden Wind Farm, located approximately 15 km northeast of the Municipality of Vindeln, was put into operation in 2015 and consists of 24 Vestas V112 turbines. The annual production is approximately 235 GWh, which is comparable to the hydropower plant of Bjurfors with an annual production of 194 GWh.

Sweden: Fäbodliden II

Fäbodliden II is an extension of the Fäbodliden Wind Farm. The wind farm consists of 4 turbines, each rated at 3.3 MW, giving a total installed capacity of 17.2 MW. The turbines are Vestas V112 3.3 MW. The total tip height is 230 m.

Sweden: Högaliden

Högaliden wind farm is located approximately 1.5 km north of the village of Botsmark in the northern part of the Municipality of Umeå. The wind farm consists of 25 wind turbines with a maximum tip height of 200 m. Construction started in 2019 and the project was put into operation in 2022. Högaliden Wind Farm has an estimated annual wind energy production of 300-400 GWh.
