Preserving ecology & archaeology

The area around the wind farm is within an agricultural designation – the Western Southern Uplands Environmentally Sensitive Area. Dumfries and Galloway Regional Council were approached at an early stage and assisted in a wide consultation to ensure that the ecology and archaeology of the site were preserved.

Consultees included: Scottish Natural Heritage, Solway River Purification Board, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Carsphairn Community Council and New Cumnock Community Council.

Community

Whilst we build and operate wind farms we also focus on reducing the impact on local communities and the area’s ecology. There will be a Community Benefit Fund established as part of its ongoing commitments to communities in the vicinity of the wind farm. The purpose of the fund is to enable communities to carry out improvements to their local area in ways that benefit the local environment, local amenities or tourism. Each year the wind farm allocates an amount of money to the community council, which administers its disbursement to the community.
